Can't we all just get along?
“Beer Wars will introduce you to the who’s who in beer while following the journey of small, independent brewers who are challenging the corporate giants. Director Anat Baron provides an insider’s perspective of the daily battles and all out wars that dominate one of America’s favorite industries.”
The documentary stars Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head and Rhonda Kallman, Co-founder of Boston Beer Company (Samuel Adams), and Founder of New Century Brewing. Others like Michael Jackson, Todd Alstrom, Jim Koch, and Greg Koch of Stone Brewing Co. also see some airtime as the movie was set at a Las Vegas beer convention a few years ago.
Check out their website, and see where its playing near you.
You guys going to check this out? Theres one showing in PDX proper, though I was surprised it’s not at one of the McMennemins theatres. I read Sam C’s book, ‘Brewing Up A Business’, and it was pretty good- light for a ‘business’ book (which was ok with me), but worth a read.
@ Deez
We are definitely going to. Its playing at the Bridge over here. Hopefully in one of their uber-theatres where they serve alcohol :D
Was that book a how-to, a biography of the business, or something else….? I think opening a brewpub is in my not-so-near-future so any suggestions on reading material would be cool.
thx
Sort of like business book-lite. Good little tips about basic business stuff, and otherwise just a nice story about a homebrewer made good.
Do not let Andy talk you into opening a pub without actually thinking about it first. When he was working on me, he made everything sound so simple it was a bit funny. And by funny, I mean delusional.
@ Deez
HA…
Yeah no worries there. If and when it happens it will not be before much deliberation and consultation with the right people.
This new job has taught me that just when you think you have it nailed down, some other thing you didnt think of in the first phase of development will inevitably pop up. Good thing is I think when the time comes to open up shop with a brew pub/brewery (10 years….?), I’ll be ready. You want in???????
No, but I’ll run the homebrew shop that’s attached/ across the street/ etc. and work some bar shifts here and there. I don’t think it’s something that really appeals to me. Unless that cuts me out of free beer/ discounts.
@ Deez
“Listen dude…” ;)
Everything is as easy as you want to make it. Plus, I’m not afraid of screwing things up along the way (it happens, it’s life).
I’m still not done with you… ;)
